The second of the CityAir Project Air Quality Awareness Seminars was held for the Mediterranean Region
The second of the ‘University Air Quality Awareness Seminars’ was held, hosted by Çukurova University within the scope of the Project for Improving Air Quality and Raising Public Awareness in Cities. In the second seminar, which was held online due to the pandemic and was attended by university students from Adana, Hatay, Osmaniye, Kilis, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş and Mersin, all details on air quality from global to local level were shared.
The second of the ‘University Air Quality Awareness Seminars’ was held for the Mediterranean Region, within the scope of the Project for Improving Air Quality and Raising Public Awareness in Cities (CityAir) which is funded by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey and implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization.
İrde ÇETİNTÜRK GÜRTEPE, Ministry of Environment and Urbanization Air Management Evaluation Branch Manager, made the opening speech of the seminer organized with the participation of nearly 150 students from all faculties and departments, especially the Environmental Engineering Department, of universities in Adana, Hatay, Osmaniye, Kilis, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş and Mersin, which are within the scope of the CityAir Project. Giving information about the emission inventory and awareness studies carried out within the scope of the CityAir Project, Gürtepe said, “As the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, we monitor the air quality of all cities in Turkey with 330 measurement stations. The data we obtain is of great importance in improving air quality. We are constantly working to leave a clean future for our young people”.
In the Air Quality University Awareness Seminar, general information and studies on communication activities regarding the scope of the CityAir Project were also shared. CityAir project team leader Dr. Hüseyin Özdemir drew attention to the importance of the emission inventory studies carried out within the scope of the CityAir project in his General Information Presentation and also shared information about the awareness activities carried out in cooperation with the United Nations and the European Union. Şendağ mentioned the communication activities carried out within the scope of the project and touched upon the activities conducted on a global scale, especially World Environment Day, World Clean Air Day and European Mobility Week.
Project representatives answered questions from students in the last part of the seminar which was organized with the participation of students and faculty members from Çukurova University, Mustafa Kemal University, İskenderun Technical University, Mersin University, Toros University, Tarsus University, Korkut Ata University, Gaziantep University, Hasan Kalyoncu University, 7 Aralik University and Sütçü İmam University.
