Students Come Together for the III. Time to Improve Air Quality from Global Scale to Local Level within the Scope of the CityAir Project
The third of the ‘University Air Quality Awareness Seminars’ was held, hosted by Sinop University within the scope of the Project for Improving Air Quality and Raising Public Awareness in Cities. In the third seminar, which was held online due to the pandemic and was attended by university students from Tokat, Sivas, Sinop, Samsun, Ordu, Giresun, Çorum ve Amasya’, all details on air quality from global scale to local level were shared.
The third of the ‘University Air Quality Awareness Seminars’ was held for the Central Black Sea Region, within the scope of the Project for Improving Air Quality and Raising Public Awareness in Cities (CityAir) which is funded by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey and implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization.
İrde ÇETİNTÜRK GÜRTEPE, Ministry of Environment and Urbanization Air Management Evaluation Branch Manager, made the opening speech of the seminar organized with the participation of more than 100 students from all faculties and departments, especially the Environmental Engineering Department, from universities in Tokat, Sivas, Sinop, Samsun, Ordu, Giresun, Çorum and Amasya, which are within the scope of the CityAir Project. Giving information about the emission inventory and awareness studies carried out within the scope of the CityAir Project, Gürtepe said, “As the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, we monitor the air quality of all cities in Turkey with 330 measurement stations. The data we obtain is of great importance in improving air quality. We are constantly working to leave a clean future for our young people.
In the Air Quality University Awareness Seminar, general information and studies on communication activities regarding the scope of the CityAir Project were also shared. CityAir project team leader Dr. Hüseyin Özdemir drew attention to the importance of the emission inventory studies carried out within the scope of the CityAir project in his General Information Presentation and also shared information about the awareness activities carried out in cooperation with the United Nations and the European Union. Project communication coordinator Seçil Şendağ also made a presentation. Şendağ mentioned the communication activities carried out within the scope of the project and touched upon the activities conducted on a global scale, especially World Environment Day, World Clean Air Day and European Mobility Week.
Project representatives answered questions from students in the last part of the seminar which was organized with the participation of students and faculty members from Giresun University, Ordu University, Ondokuz Mayıs University, Sivas Cumhuriyet University, Amasya University, Hitit University, Sinop University, Amasya University, Hiti University, Tokat University, as well as private sector representatives, and representatives of the Ministry of National Education and Health.
